relationship reflection

my husband and our boys Merlin and Arthur

Communicate, Appreciate and Validate everyone in your life.  A well-known author, communicator, John Edward uses this phrase in his work.  I think it just says everything in 3 simple words.
I believe that communicating is important in any relationship.  Say what you need to say, few people are mind readers (even though I tell my husband he should take a class in it).
Appreciate the people in your life.  Value them for who they are and what they bring to the relationship; not who you want them to be or wish they could be.
Everyone needs to have their feelings, thoughts and ideas validated.  Validation does not mean you necessarily agree it just means you listen and make the effort to see things from the other person’s point of view.
I will say I have very few close relationships.  I am very private and do not share my life with many people.  But those I do let into my world are chosen carefully and valued greatly!
I have many other relationships in my life built around being a family, teacher, work and community.   I use the same mantra for those relationships, just on a different level.

  1. Hi Tammy,
I love your phrase that you started with! I think those a great points in a relationship. I can understand and respect the fact that you have a very few close relationships. It can be very difficult to let many in and I have experienced this and have tended to be walked all over. I have become a little more like you described and my circle of friends have gotten much smaller, but as you said, valued greatly! Thank you for sharing a little piece of your life with us!

  2. Tammy,

I love your picture with your husband, the dogs and the rocks! Your phase is spot on and something people should consider. All very strong and important words to a relationship.

  3. I enjoyed reading your post on the concept of communicate, appreciate and validate which does make sense about what people need to know about relationships. Every person in this world needs to understand how to value what they have in life and continue to work toward the greater relationships.
