o.k. this week is quotes
from some of the people who inspire us…
There are a lot of people who have inspired me for one reason or another over the years. I would like to have this blog also serve as a way for me to share some of that inspiration with others.
For this week’s assignment though I have the following to offer:
1. Big Thinkers: T. Berry Brazelton on Parents as Partners in Education
Harvard School of Medicine Professor Emeritus and noted author Dr. T. Berry Brazelton speaks about the importance of social and emotional learning, and how parents and teachers can work together to improve education for their children.
Brazelton states that “Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is probably the most important thing we can do right now for children.” Video from www.edutopia.org
2. Parents don't make mistakes because they don't care, but because they care so deeply. T. Berry Brazelton brainyquote.com/quotes
3. "Each of us must come to care about everyone else's children. We must recognize that the welfare of our children is intimately linked to the welfare of all other people's children. After all, when one of our children needs life-saving surgery, someone else's child will perform it. If one of our children is harmed by violence, someone else's child will be responsible for the violent act. The good life for our own children can be secured only if a good life is also secured for all other people's children." Lilian Katz,

These next few are from the video we watched in week 2:
1. As Early Childhood Professionals we have the opportunity to shape a child’s life or the better. Sandy Escobido, Deputy Field Director Los Angeles Preschool Advocacy Initiative
2. I’m not here to save the world; I’m here just to make a difference in the community that I am working. Making a difference may mean helping one child be successful in the classroom. Raymond Hernandez, Executive Director-School of Early Childhood Education University of southern California
3. It’s not all about you, you have to take your ego out of it and think about what is best for this child. Renatta M. Cooper, Program Specialist Office of Childcare Los Angeles County Chief Administration Office
I can't agree with the second quote and maybe I should see the entire context. But so many parents make mistakes due to ignorance.
ReplyDeletebut ignorance is just not knowing, it is not not caring. brazelton starts from the basis that every parent wants the best for their child. Everything they do is based on their love for that child. Kind of like doing the best you can with what you have/or know.
