The Very Hungry Caterpillar
by: Eric Carle
My class & I have had so much fun with this book. First of all they love reading the book because they can easily memorize the words and then retell the story with puppets or flannel board pieces for friends. What a self esteem builder. We took a journey through the book last summer and the children had activities to do with each part of the book. It helped to make the book more meaningful to them. We took pictures of the children doing the activities through out the book and then made an album of the several weeks it took us to complete the journey.
I have to comment, I work with young toddlers, and when we read this book our art is fold art.
ReplyDeleteWe make "caterpillers" on the paper by squirting paint, then we fold it in half. When we open it, there is a butterfly. While some might not completely understand, they still look excited when the blob becomes something more.
Such a great book to gather lesson plan ideas!
